Question: wearing wedding band prior to wedding ?
We just bought our wedding bands as a Christmas present to eachother and
our wedding date is Sept 2000.... I'd like to wear my band now but on
the right hand, and then remove it the day of the wedding for our
ring bearer to deliver.... is this okay?
I can't speak toward superstitions, but one does not wear an item prematurely
which is meant for a specific event/occasion. For example, one does not wear an
Easter bonnet all winter long simply because it's lovely and already purchased.
A wedding ring is worn after one is married. If you want a special ring to wear
before hand, consider exchanging engagement rings.
Brett: If you're going to start wearing the ring now, then it really isn't
a wedding band, is it? It's simply become a recycled Christmas present
come the wedding day. Yeah, I'd put this under superstition -- deminishing
the spirit of a ring. And since wedding bands are symbols more than
anything else, deminishing their spirit by wearing them prematurely sort
of defeats the purpose. And if you're that anxious, sure, wear the
Christmas present. But then get something else for the wedding day, even
if you have to dig it out of a Cracker Jacks box.
I totally agree with Trystan. I wanted to give my fiance an engagement
present (its only fair - he gave me a lovely engagement ring!) and we
both came up with the idea that he too have an engagement ring.
However, he does not like those big chunky mens rings, so we just got a
wedding ring. It is white gold and he wears on it his left finger,
just like I wear my engagment ring on my left finger. On the wedding
day, he will swap it onto his right finger, and I will give him a
yellow gold wedding ring to put on his left finger. Everyone who has
seen the ring has thought it was an excellent idea.
So my advice to you Brett, is to maybe (if you can afford it of course)
get a simple wedding ring, or even a mens ring (if you like them) and
wear that instead, on your left hand. That way you can keep the
sentimentality (is that a word?!) of the wedding ring.
I bought my fiance an engagement ring for his birthday. Seemed only fair
since he surprised me with an engagement ring. He was extremely surprised
and didnt expect this at all. We love showing off OUR engagement rings since
its a little unusual for him to be wearing an engagement ring. In fact i
bought him a very slim diamond ring with a small solitare in themiddle. The
day of the wedding he will change this to his right hand and replace it with
a wedding band. THink about it....We have really enjoyed each having
something to show. Makes for great conversation!!!
