- The best your watch
I have about 5 watches, but nothing fancy, but I want to start getting
better and better watches.
How do you all store your watches?
Do you have a display case, etc?
Im trying to find a display case that would allow me to see my
watches, but yet is not too expensive.
Any ideas?
Looks like a pretty normal jewelry box, except the drawers are about 3"
deep, and have pillows in them. Probably cut foam. Looks like (poorly)
hand sewn velvet over them.
Crude methodology, and needlessly complex - you'd get better looking
results if you just made small tubes of velvet with drawstrings on the
ends and fitted those over sections of foam rubber pipe insulation. Save
you lots of fiddly little stitches, and cutting of shapes.
This way, you cut a long strip of velvet, seam the edges, cut into
sections, and then enclose those sections into tubes, then run some
string through the gaps seams and tie a knot. You could even tie the
ends of the strings together inside the tube of insulation, so that the
extra fabric is drawn in instead of sticking out at the edges. Much
faster, no dumb looking corners sticking out.
Of course, the problem with this sort of display case is that you have
to take out the pillow and remove the watch from it and then put the
pillow back. It's a bit fiddly. And will get all jumbly if it travels.
I've been considering the concept of a block of foam with troughs cut
in it, and covered in velvet, such that you just push the watch band
into the trough and nothing but friction from the velvet and pressure
from the foam on either side holds it in. Not a *lot of thought, it's
not like I have drawings or a prototype. Or even, as you can see here, a
clear explanation of what i mean.
