Tongue piercing question, is titanium a must ??
Here goes, what I have heard is that if your tounge piercing jewellery
is not titanium there is a risk that the fillings in your teeth will
decay, is there any thruth in this ??
Just wondering because allmost every jewellery company I have talked
to now have steel balls on there titanium barbells.
Now something sort of different.
I'm thinking of having my tongue pierced soon but if I do I want 3
holes in a row, will this be any problem ??
i have never heard that titanium is a must for anything.
every tongue piercing ive been witness to used a surgical steel barbell.
so i doubt titanium is necessary...i may be wrong (but i doubt it)

What happens in your mouth when titanium and stainless are in contact with
each other is that there is a transfer of electrons from one metal to the
other. This will not be a problem for everybody as this effect is reliant on
the acidity of your saliva. But it can change the taste of some foods and make
gingerale explode like poprocks. This happened to my (then at the time)
girlfriend. Changing to all ti solved this problem.
As a standard rule of thumb, I do not recomend to any customers to mix ti and
stainless in any moist areas of the body.
As to any long term effects that is not something that i could
answer.
What I am most worried about is the transfer af electrons betwen the
barbell and the fillings in my teeth.
I don't know about the states but here in sweden fillings contain
mercury and that's not something you want in your body.
But the fillings should react the same to both titanium an ss
shouldn't??
