Buddhism and Aleviating Suffering/depression ?
Having turned your backs
On the Daishonin's golden words,
Are you ready
To be burned in the fires
Of the hell of incessant suffering?
To be imprisoned in a cavern
In the hell of extreme cold?
well, that's a good start... -- now, perhaps we
can get someone who is a little more lucid and articulate
to elaborate on what yu've said thusfar
what ever you do, don't call him a little
vajrayani weasel, bbb...pete... : )
Clinical Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It
is independent of any environmental factor. It is not a "downward
spiral of the psyche." Therapy, and the methods you list, do not help.
Why? Because the clinically depressed person cannot do them. If
clinically depressed people try these methods and fail, which they
will, they will feel even worse.
Anti-depressants are not "happy pills." They allow the patient to
think and feel as normal people do, including feeling sad, which is
entirely different than depression.
You may mean well with your methods, but they actually harm the
clincally depressed person. Trying them may push such a person from
contemplating suicide to committing suicide.
Clinical Depression is a life-threatening illness. It is not to be
trifled with by those who understand nothing about it. If you are not
clinically depressed, if you have not had that experience, then your
academic knowledge is useless.
