Sterling Silver Signet Ring, Any Jewelry Makers Out There??
I was recently given a lovely Aquamarine stone, thanks to the dear
Marquis De Chevalier. I would love to set it in a sterling silver ring,
something ren looking, that I can wear at and away from faire (it's by
birthstone!). Trouble is, I am having a very hard time finding rings
that are ready for stones, unless I buy one *with* one and just change
it. I really would rather not do this (too much $$ and work). I know we
have some jewelry makers on list, and was wondering if someone could
either point me in the right direction or give me some sort of aid in
this endeavor. Any help would be very appreciated!
I may be able to design a ring for you. Are you looking to set the
stone yourself? If so I would need to know the exact size and shape
of the stone. Also Aquamarine is a rather fragle stone, so you will
probably need to be sure that it is protected from knocks and dings.
I do many designs in sterling silver. Some of my more popular ones
are fantasy and floral designs. If you have a specific design in mind
let me know.
Fire Mountain Gems and Rio Grande Jewelry supply both have precast rings
waiting to be polished and have stones mounted. I don't know their Web
addresses, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.
I'd heed Paul's advice on the fragile nature of the stone and stick to
silver instead of any harder metal. I nearly made a very costly mistake once
by using white gold, not realizing how hard it is to work. Nearly shattered
a priceless sapphire trying to bend the prongs.
At first, I wanted to set it myself,
but with a total lack of jewelry making experience, I am seeing the
absurdity of the idea. My biggest problem is, I don't know exactly what
I want... When I was looking for rings, I figured it would be a "know it
when I see it" kind of thing. I'm going to look around and see if I can
find something that catches my eye, and I will email you with a pic/link
to a pic to see if you can do something similar. The stone seems to be
about 10x8 and is oval, very pretty, and maybe about 1 carat.
