Sterling Silver Amethyst Ring, Concerning earrings and rings
Since the topic of another thread in ASM has drifted into earrings, including
those which need pierced ears, I should mention (this probably comes as NO
surprise) that I do not wear earrings, never have, and probably never will.
Hence, not pierced.
As for rings, I have never worn one in the past. That may change if I can find
an affordable men's amethyst ring. I assume you know why a recovered alcoholic
would choose amethyst. By "affordable" I mean one that is not mounted in gold,
or platinum, or whatever drives up the price. Sterling Silver or something
cheaper.
O yes, I seem to be ring size 9 on my left ring finger. I have been informed
that this is the proper finger for a man wearing a ring, and one ring only is
proper.
How odd! Most men of my acquaintance have one ear pierced - some
have two piercings in that ear - and some have both ears done. UK
men think it is "macho".
On the other hand, you will very rarely see men in the UK wearing
bracelets of ANY description, whereas when I was in Colorado
I noticed a lot of ordinary working guys (construction, cowboys
etc) wearing silver "Native American" style bangles.
Amethyst is the stone of recovery. Like rose quartz is for compassion
and healing, IIRC.
There used to be a collective of sober lesbians in this area who put on
sober dances and other events for women. They were called Amethyst
Women. I knew several women in it. I also bought a lot of amethyst
jewelry when I was newly sober. I have a chunk of amethyst on my
bathroom window sill even as we speak.
Amathyst is supposed to be a protectiobn against drunkeness. It is supposed to
promote serenity. And legend says an alcoholic who drinks whilst wearing
amethyst will find the amethyst, in the long run, lose its purple shade.
And with all this background, how could I even think of drinking wiuth a
wacking big hunk of amethyst on my finger, as a constant reminder?.
Not in the UK....... and we learned our wedding ring rules from
the Romans. According to Roman beliefs, there is a vein in
the third finger left hand that runs directly to the heart, which
is why the Romans wore a ring on that finger to signify marriage.
