Skincare/makeup tips for overly ruddy complexion?

Among the many and sundry traits I've inherited from my Irish daddy, one
of them is his ruddy complexion and basic skin type/texture. On one
hand, this is a very good thing, as overall he's aged very well in spite
of being incredibly weatherbeaten (he really didn't start to get saggy
until a spell of bad health in his mid/late 60s, and overall he's
holding up damn good for a 71-year-old man), and in turn I've managed to
hit 41 without obvious crows' feet, wrinkling, etc. (most people guess
me as being around 30). The downside is the excessive ruddiness--we
both have a nasty tendency to broken capillaries and general redness,
and from what I can tell, there's nothing either of us could have done
to prevent it. It's just *there*, and that's all there is.

I know you can get certain types of laser treatment for this kind of
thing (saw some in last January's _Allure_, and the difference was quite
impressive), but since I'm currently unemployed and probably couldn't
afford such a thing even if I were working, I'm going the low-tech
route. Does anyone have any suggestions on products that might actually
help this kind of thing? I see Vitamin K creams/serums/etc. that
*supposedly* take care of such things, but I have my doubts as to
whether they're worth the money. Also, does the pale green Physicians'
Formula pressed powder help at all without making one look like a
Vulcan? I seem to recall that their powders are supposedly decent, but
I'm not up for shelling out $12 or so unless I know it's going to look
OK.

Suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance!
I can sympathise. My mother has a similar ruddy complexion, and so far (I'm
28) mine isn't looking as pink (a little on the cheeks), but I unfortunately
do have a pink birthmark on my forehead. So I feel I can maybe offer *some*
advice.

I would quite frankly, steer clear of any of the green stuff. I have tried a
few creams and lotions of this type. It is quite tricky to apply without
looking like Kermit the frog. Instead, I would focus more on the makeup side
of things. I would recommend finding a good, full-coverage foundation to
match your skin tone and take out the redness. I belive there are a few good
ones to try such as Clinique Superfit and Estee Lauder also make a good one
too (can't think of the name). I have been using a special concealer
foundation from www.colortration.com and I have found this to be very good.
It provides excellent coverage for "stained" skins and is water proof. You
can order a sample kit from them (US$12) which allows you to choose 6
re-sealable vials containing shades of your choice.

I don't work for Colortration, but I definitely recommend their product!
Hope this helps somewhat...
