Do you trust Paula's advice and reviews?

I was wondering if my fellow AFers trust Paula Begoun's
reccommendations, review and advice. Would you purchase a beauty product
that has garnered a poor review? If so, did the product live up to its
claims?
-I take Paula with a hefty grain of salt. My understanding is that most of her
skincare reviews are based on the ingredients and ph of the product rather than
on her actually trying the product. She's given some very inaccurate reviews of
products I use (saying that they behave differently than they actually do, on my
face anyway).

However, she does a great job of explaining what the ingredients are and what
they do, and things like the difference between AHAs and BHAs, and in that I
think she's performing a great service.

-I find Paula's suggestions to be helpful, but I always check both her review as
well as reviews on makeupalley before making a purchasing decision on a product
I am not sure of.

-No, I don't trust her reviews at all. I bought her first book and disagreed
with so many of her assessments, and when she came out with her own line of
cosmetics/skincare, that just blew any shred of credibility she had with me
(conflict of interest). Although I can't say that she had much credibility to
begin with. In order to get a somewhat informed assessment of a product, you
must read many reviews, as the YMMV thing is so prevalent in the beauty
products arena. One person can only say what works for him or her, but that
doesn't extrapolate out to the general population.
