Antidepressants and dangerous side effects ?

It seems that there are problems with a number of antidepressants of late.
In particular, the type of antidepressants known as SSRIs have allegedly
been the cause of suicidal and violent behavior. These are unfortunately
often prescribed to children and include Effexor, Paxil, Zoloft, Luvox,
Lexapro, and Celexa. Remeron and Serzone are another two antidepressants
which are not SSRIs that have been linked with the same side effects.

It seems that there is some asshole who styles himself "kent r0ss" who
shills for various commercial interests, primarily law firms, as his
posting history will make clear (check out google -- in the last
couple of months, he's posted nothing but such articles). No
participation in anything, just ads.

Perhaps Jan can share just a bit of her vast knowledge about
depression here. Not the passing feelings of mild depression that
most people experience now & then, but the kind of ongoing, severe
depression that often results in crippled lives & suicide. Since Jan
is so sure about the evils of antidepressants, surely she must have a
great deal of expertise WRT the problem as well as easy, effective
solutions to make everything "right as rain"???

Strange that she should take not one but two antidepressants herself,
yet she wants to deny this sort of treatment to suicidal adolescents.

Yep, energy increases before improvement in mood starts, docs can't
prevent all suicides but at least there are antidepressants to help
prevent many more than this newest scare is based upon. I'm worried
about how much these scares damage med compliance, doc-patient
relationships and such... I've read too many people just stop their meds
cold without even talking to their doc.

Let me field this one for Jan since she'll only divert and attack.
Jan takes both of those meds for headaches secondary to depression and the
Neurontin in particular for Idiopathic PN. She has taken them for years and
continues to take them to this very day. The reason for this is because they
work, they help reduce her symptoms to a far greater extent than they cause
side-effects.

Jan's infinite reluctance to practice what she preaches about these very meds
is the most sincere form of testimonial to the efficacy of the Pharmaceutical
Industry.

There are very few comments or replies I get on my posts.
I don't know if you have noticed, but here are a lot of issues with
pharmaceuticals and other health problems. Many people don't even know that
these issues exist. If you inform people of the existence of these kind of
problems, or even make them aware that they are not the only one having
them, then something can be done about the issue. The unfortunate part is
that many of these large companies have huge backing and broad exposure, so
individually it is very difficult to have much affect on them or the harm
that is being caused. Legal action is one of the few ways to get these
products recalled so they don't harm others further, or at least to make
clear (especially in the case of antidepressants and other problematic
pharmaceuticals) to those using them the possible dangerous effects and make
sure they are not perscribed for conditions they were not meant to be solely
for the profit of the companies. I hope some people have been helped by my
posts or at least made aware of these type of problems that are out there.
And hopefully, this will have an effect on changing some of these type of
issues that need to be dealt with.
