Sexual Harassment Training Materials
Especially in today's political and social climate, do you think it
would be really smart of the Mormon Missionary Training Center to
implement some very serious training on sexual harassment issues (as in
any other large company or business), and outline a specific policy of
action to be taken in the event that someone screws up, even after
having had the church's position clearly delineated to them?
When this one finally explodes, which it enivitably will, EVERYONE in
the Mormon church is going to be blamed and will suffer for it - not
just the missionary(ies) involved.
The missionaries are NEVER allowed to be alone (outside of their apartments,
or basic necessities). They ARE taught basic precautions, in their mission
rules. Each mission president takes responsibility for their missionaries,
and provides an environment to protect them from themselves, as well as other
dangers.
Does this mean that nothing bad happens? No. Just think of the two
missionaries killed in the Canary Islands. They weren't even breaking the
rules. I know of stories, of missionaries who broke the rules, and some died
from those actions, others were sent home. In one case, the missionary snuck
out at night, and married a local girl.
The MTC is designed as a very spiritual place, kind of a boot camp for
missionaries. They get the rules and regulations from their mission
presidents.
