Sexual Harassment In The Workplace Is
what do you know about Sexual Harassment In The Workplace ?
In earlier times the workplace was viewed as a place where friendships
could be forged as a natural consequence of people working alongside one
another. Under the feminist model of abusers and victims, however, the
justification for imposing sexual harassment prohibitions on behavior in
the specific formal framework of the workplace where it applies, is as
described in a syllabus for a recent Supreme Court decision:
-> Proximity and regular contact afford a captive pool of potential
victims.
(See http://supct.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/97-569.ZS.html )
Of course, these days the term "victims" encompasses the recipients of
unwanted lunch invitations. It should be of equal concern that proximity
and regular contact are also exploited by those who would manufacture a
claim of sexual harassment for whatever reason.
Telecommuting would eliminate proximity and regular contact for those who
opted for it. Therefore, I would like HR to allow single employees to be
given the option to telecommute. The single employee would then be free
to carry out the days work in coffee shops, businesses that provide "a
new way to office", libraries and other venues where their social
interactions are governed by social conventions and not by the intrusive
misapplication of Civil Rights law.
