unusual pickle using GW with Sales force CRM
I have had a few conversations with people out here. And you all have been
really helpful. The advice you have given is solid and agrees with my
thinking. You have all surely seen my many posts on trying to get Outlook
working with GW6.5. All of this has been pushed by the fact we are using a
new web based CRM package called Sales force. Of course the Outlook
integration for this product is great and the users love it. Salesforce
only supports and designs for Outlook integration. So I had to go to a
third party product called Linkpoint 360 for GW support and integration.
Problem is posting data to the Salesforce contacts takes 5 extra steps than
if Outlook were used. And the Linkpoint connector is SLOW. Linkpoint
blames the NW and GW file system structure for this - right....
Point being the users productivity and happiness has gone down the tubes. I
have to find a solution that allows Outlook to be used. I wish they could
wait until I could test and rollout GW7 - cause it sounds like that might
solve my problems? But they wont wait, everyday that goes by they get more
frustrated with GW.
So, I have been testing both Outlook 2000 / 2003. So far better luck and
predictability with 2000. But I have run into a few snags - main ones being
how do you use Outlook on the road if you cant authenticate offline like you
can with GW caching mode? And can you get the address books to auto-fill in
the client?
Finally - if I cant get the online full feature Outlook working right and I
have to switch them to POP or IMAP, which is the lesser of the two evils in
your opinion?
Tough situation. GW7, I hear is going to be released the 15th, so now less
than 4 days away.
My test upgrade went so smooth, that if it were me, I might really consider
just going to GW7. You can download the beta and test it out rather
quickly - don't know about how difficult to test with SF CRM
