Religious Costume Jewelry
I can find NOTHING Asatru, by way of symbols to be worn, here in America. If
you could lead me in the right direction I would be very grateful thanks! I
would be particularly interested in a Valknutr knot.
You haven't looked very hard if you haven't found Asatru symbols by
the case. I have a Tiwaz rune that I wear on Tuesdays that I found
in a display of costume jewelry. It's beginning to wear out and I'd
love a carved hand to replace it. My agnostic wife found me a
valknut also in a display of costume jewelry.
Online there are plentiful sources of Thors Hammers and so one. I
have an Ullr pendant from Worldtree, and a copy of the Freyr statue
that's been reduced to pendent size that I don't remember where I
bought it.
Check out Dirk's Asatru Resources postings and scan for Worldtree.
Look again in costume jewelry displays.
And another idea - Go to an Army-Navy surplus store. They do custom
dogtags. I duplicated my old dogtags, but I got my honorable discharge
in 1984 and I converted to Asatru about 1988, so my old dogtags said
NONE on the religious preference line. I eventually lost my issued
dogtages so I had new ones made up that say ASATRU/ODINIST on the
religious preference line. I figure plenty of folks won't know the
word Asatru so I put on the easier to understand but more commonly
misunderstood Odinist together with it. I wear the dog tag pendant
every Sunday plus whenever I travel away from home. Asatru includes
a military tradition as an option, and this is one of my nods to that
part of the tradition. Nothing wrong with a civilian putting
CIVILIAN (or CIVILIAN/MILITIA if you're a Constitutional scholar
and don't mind the occasional teaching when someone misunderstands)
on the line where my says USN/USNR-AR.
Even better if you can afford it is custom work. Find a silversmith
and draw a picture. Ask how much a commisioned piece is. I like my
custom hammer better than any I've seen in stores or catalogs and at
the time I had the money to spare.
