i wanted to know how the online credit card payments are accepted from
the customers without involving the third party processors. I mean, i
directly want to intract with the interface provided by the credit card
banks. is it possible?
You must go through at least one processor such as First Data.
If you want to do it over the web, you will probably need another
processor to get to First Data, such as Cybercash.

You can certainly do it (assuming that you have or will have a credit
card merchant account), it's just a matter of how you want to do it.
In the worst case scenario, you could manually enter in the
information. Someone places an order, and when you get a chance you
enter it in. Of course, this won't work if the person needs to know
right away that their transaction was successful. But, if they are
ordering a book, for example, it could work fine. 3 years ago I did
something similar to this where users would enter the information about
their order, which would send me an E-mail, and I would manually
process the transaction. 3 years ago this was a great option.
The credit card processing software that I used had an option where
transactions could be automated. If I remember correctly, all I would
have to do was generate a text file with the necessary information.
You could write a program that would interact with their processing
program. I'm sure newer processing software has elaborate APIs to use.
But, that would likely require a certain amount of programming.
A third option would be to buy software that does this all for you.
This would either be written to interface to your processing software,
or it may be written to dial directly into the banks computers.
