Postpartum Depression Spanish?

A woman who had been taking medication for postpartum depression told police
in Houston, Texas, that she killed her five young children Wednesday,
apparently by drowning them one at a time in a bathtub in the family's home,
authorities said.

had been taking medication for postpartum depression for about two
years, Cannon said. But he added that detectives had not determined a motive
for the slayings.

Diane Treadwell-Deering, a psychiatrist on the faculty of Baylor College of
Medicine in Houston, said women suffering from postpartum depression often
are plagued by "feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, changes in sleep
patterns, feelings of being overwhelmed, feelings of irritability for most
of the day, every day, for weeks.''

In rare, "catastrophic'' cases, Treadwell-Deering said, some women suffer
psychotic breaks with reality, marked by delusions and hallucinations.

"I've taken care of women who have become psychotic after delivery and they
think their babies are evil, or they think they need to protect their babies
from the world, and they hear voices telling them that their babies would be
better off dead,'' Treadwell-Deering said.

Instances of women killing their children during bouts of postpartum
depression "are not commonplace, but not unheard of by any means,''

Yes, I had seen this on the news last night. I hadn't heard that
she'd been on meds, though. Last I knew, the police were still
investigating, and were going to question her husband as to whether
she was under any kind of treatment.

I too saw it on the early evening news last night, Nan. They did mentioned
something about meds and depression. Did you see her being taken out of the
home? She was so bedraggled that I didn't know she was a woman at first.

Now I remember why I don't like to watch doom and gloom news....so sad, so
very sad....

I also hate doom and gloom news, and last night, our local channel had
several bad stories. First, a story about yet another young child
being left on a school bus....then about a daycare center in a nearby
county that was currently closed down and under investigation of
allegations that the workers were giving the kids adult Nyquil to make
them sleep at naptime (!!!), then the story of the woman killing her
kids. By the time this story came on, I was shutting down my mind a
little bit due to the other stories, and I missed several details.
