Photodynamic therapy?
So much to learn about cancer. There are so many ways people are trying to react with this
disease. How do you guys feel about photodynamic therapy. Does it really do any good if so
how?
- the role of photodynamic therapy is still being developed. It is
still undergoing evaluation in a number of specific circumstances but
with particular emphasis in palliation of obstructive Carcinoma of the
lung and esophagus. Other indications being evaluated are prostatic
obstruction and Barrett's esophagus.
At present it is too early to say definitive results have been
demonstrated for any of the indications.
-Photodynamic therapy is being researched as
a PALLIATIVE to relieve symptoms of (esophageal or bronchial) obstruction.
It cannot replace surgery, whose purpose (usually) is an attempt to CURE
the illness. Photodynamic therapy AT BEST will make a hole through a
tumor; it will not extirpate the tumor.
