Oregon cost of living?
I'm trying to compare Oregon's cost of living, especially compared to
the Northeast. Housing definitely looks cheaper. The state income tax
is staggering (9 percent!), but there's no sales tax, so I'm guessing
this is a wash for middle-income families (not sure how property taxes
compare). I'm assuming the overall tax bite is steep but not as bad
as, say, Massachusetts.
Gas seems to be more expensive, for some reason. Otherwise, how is the
cost of living compared to the East Coast, or even Washington State?
- the state income tax is higher, but as you noted, no sales tax.
You will find that real property tax is about 5-10% lower here than in
Mass., that auto insurance rates are about 25-30% lower in Oregon and
that utilities are about 25-30% less in
