UK bank account with no credit check?

I recently paid off my two credit cards and cancelled both of them, as due
to my regular DVD buying my balance was never coming down and i was being
shafted on the amount of interest i was paying. I expected that after doing
this my bank, who were the credit card issuers, would give me a debit card
with no hassle. I have been told that due to my occassional late paymnets
( hey, i had a lot of DVDs to buy that month ) to my credit card that i am
not eligible for a debit card!! They give me £1000s of pounds credit, but
won't give me a debit card!!!! I have no means of buying my DVDs
online!!!!!! Can someone reccomend a UK high street bank that won't do a
credit check and that give you a debit card as standard? I have been told
previously of a few banks, but i can't remember exactly who they were. I
think the Woolwich was one of them.

-I had a similar problem, Halifax only do a limited search I got an account
