How long do you try a new skincare product?
With some products, I can tell right away if they work or not - they make me
break out, they make me too oily, too dry. But some products I'm having a
really hard time figuring out if I like it - if there's any benefit.
The latest one to throw me was Origins Make a Difference Cream. I think it's
thrown me because I've never had good things to say about Origins skincare,
but I tried a sample of this (combined with their Perfect World Sample) and
I think I liked it. But I ran out of the Perfect World first so I tried a
sample of Prescriptives new Line Preventor and then I wasn't sure if it was
the Make a difference, the Line Preventor or the combination that was making
my skin a little weird. (I'm 28 have normal/dry skin that breaks out of
something too emollient. Its hard skin to fix!) So I'm not sure if I should
continue, or just say it doesn't work or what.
I've done this with Sage Skincare too - I try the cleansers at random
because if I use it for too long my skin reacts and I don't know if it was
because it was hormonal, stress, a bad week or the product - sometimes it's
hard to tell!
So, how long do you use a new product to find if it really does work or not?
-If something is going to make me break out, make me too dry or oily, it
usually does it in a couple of days. If nothing bad happens I use it till
the product is gone or if it breaks me out later (doesn't usually happen).
I don't use 2 new products at once - can't tell which is the good/bad one.
Did you ever use the Make a Difference Cream by itself? If you did and it
was fine, I'd say it was the Line Preventer that made your skin weird.
I have a similar thing with a Kiss My Face product - the Jojoba and Mint
Facial (for pore refining). I can use it and it works great. The next time
my face gets red (like a sunburn) in certain places. The next time I use it
(don't ask me why I try it again - lol) it's fine. I have *no* idea why it
does that.
- you should not try more than one new skin care product at a
time. You can't really tell which product is causing the problems. I
also have some of my old standbys (Cetaphil Cleanser, Abolene make-up
remover, Origins Eye Doctor eye cream) ready in the event of a new
product wrecking havoc.
I have uber sensitive skin so I can usually tell within 24 hours if
there is something wrong with a new product I am using. It's also good
practice not to immediately trash boxes and receipts too.
