My Credit Report Com
Anyhow I bought a 3-in-1 report from Equifax and found that an unpaid collection of
$292 is against my name. While the address of the collection agency is in the same
city where I once lived (which makes it as genuine), the dates are off.
It shows that the opened date of collection was some years ago two years after I left that
city and 18 months
after I left USA.
It is possible that the creditor did not sell the bill to collections
until it was significantly overdue.
Think about bills you might have failed to settle, especially if
your mail forwarding got screwed up: last month's rent on deposit
or damage claimed by the apartment owner, utility bills, cancellation
fees on a cell phone contract, etc.
One black mark does not necessarily screw you. It is a good idea
to clear it up, though. But a really-old chargeoff may be less bad
than paying it, giving you a recent "SETTLED".
