Online Mortgage Advertising.,
Many sites advertise "Click here to reduce your mortgage payments" crap. Most
of them have 50 little boxes where you can click your home state. But it makes
no difference where you click, you are always directed to the same place.
So... What's the purpose of listing all 50 states when it's meaningless?
Amazon's online advertising doesn't have fifty little boxes for you to click.
Is mortgage brokering that profitible? It seems that there's a mortgage ad
everywhere. I went to weather.com, and there were two different mortgage
brokers (each with 50 different buttons) on the same home page.
It's not that profitable, but the lead-brokering is. That's why there's
so much morgage spam. Answer one of those, and you'll find yourself
instantly carpetbombed with refinancing offers, because the guy sending
the spam is selling leads - your information - to anybody and everybody.
In theory, CAN-SPAM is supposed to allow providers and governments to go
after the purchasers of the leads. In practice, there's effectively no
enforcement. Some folks with a lot of time on their hands give bogus
data to the lead brokers and 'sting' the recipients, but that doesn't
really have much effect either.
