Late Show Friday Impressions #260 - Class Rings ?

I'm going to fit Late Show Impressions for a Bill Lehecka-encrusted ring.

Good evening. So I go to a local jeweler to get some links added to my new
watch, and I end up meeting a cute girl, who, knowing she's cute, got me to
commit to getting a school ring. Damn scam artists! Actually, it was an
idea that I had for a while, and I think I deserve to get a college
graduation ring, so it was just a matter of convenience. I'm going to get a
ring that's styled similar to my father's college ring. It helps that we
went to the same university and had the same degree, so copying it for my
finger and for my look will be a cinch.

And now for the military lesson for tonight. Seaman are the ones with 3
slanted lines on their left upper arm sleave. Those with 2 such lines are
Seaman Apprentice or Airman Apprentice depending on the color. One line is a
Seaman Recruit. If the lines are chevrons, they are Petty Officers. 3 =
First Class. 2 = Second Class. 1 = Third Class. A curved arch over the top
of a three line chevron is a Chief Petty Officer. A Chief with 3 stars above
the arched chevron is "The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy" of which
there is only one, the highest ranking enlisted person in the Navy.
I know...information that you will never use. That's what you get with a
rerun week and the cliff-hanger ending of the season of the TMS.

I also enjoyed Gerard Mulligan as monkey-man, even if we all did see
it coming up Broadway (as soon as Dave started talking about
monkey-man earlier in the week I knew it was only a matter of time
before we saw Gerry in the role). Fake blood is always appreciated,
and the altered monkey-washing-a-cat clip was a great, if oddly
disturbing, touch. I look forward to seeing the Gerard version of the
clip thrown in at random times for weeks or months to come.
