Online resources for learning French

I am attempting to learn French. I can read it fairly
well, but I have difficulty expressing my own thoughts in French - which is why
I'm posting this in English, as you might be able to understand my English
better than you can understand my French, even if you've never learned a word of
English. But I can read replies in either language, so reply in whichever
language you prefer.

An idea I have which should help learn French is to watch French-language movies
to hear the words, and to use captioning or French subtitles. Since I can read
French okay, this should help me connect the written and spoken words much more
easily, especially if I can have the context of a story to assist me in making
sense of the conversation. However, all I have access to at present are DVD
movies. The few I have are English movies with French audio tracks and French
subtitles. The problem is that the French subtitles and the spoken French are
very poorly synchronized on every single movie I've tried watching thus far (I
know enough about how French sounds to easily tell that much). So what I'm
looking for are either French-language movies/TV shows, or any-language
movies/shows with good French audio tracks, that also have French subtitles (or
captioning) that match the spoken French to at least a _pretty_ good degree -
the synchronization on these U.S. movies I have is quite horrid.

I am most interested in media I can view online, but offline resources would
also be appreciated.

I can't help with captioned French movies, but if you
want to practice your written French with native speakers, try
participating in some of the newsgroups in the French-language fr.*
hierarchy, in topics that interest you. Two in particular you might
