Jewelry Making For Fun Profit
My idea of making pins from discarded buttons seems like it might actually
be a keeper--I've made about 10 of them now and feedback from the few
friends I've shown them to has been good. Of course, friends might not be
comfortable giving me a totally objective opinion, but I'm having fun making
them so I think I'll continue for a while. This is strictly costume jewelry;
the consensus of what they might sell for ranges from about $6 to $12. I've
purchased a few findings and beads, but my cost per pin is easily less than
a quarter apiece.
There's probably a newsgroup specifically for this kind of question, but I'm
figuring maybe some of you frugalistas have little cottage industries to
bring in a few extra dollars. How do you sell your stuff? Any advice for a
newbie?
I made jewelry for a long time. I did a lot of juried shows. If you enjoy
sitting at a booth and talking to people for hours, craft shows can be fun.
I made a lot of money, other people hardly covered the booth/show fees. Some
shows didn't have the draw or people were selling "granny crafts", no one
had a use for.......like plastic canvas tissue holders. I'd say try it, at
least once.
