HSBC credit card payments ?

HSBC credit card payments.?
I have recently moved from Natwest to HSBC bank in the UK.

The main reason for this was my visiting the US more often and thought HSBC
would be a better bank for my global travel.

When opening the account (current/checking) I got the standard debit &
credit card (my first ever) as well as cheque books.

My thoughts and question is:

When I use my credit card to purchase something I would like HSBC to send me
a bill. Then for me to write a cheque to pay off the balance.

Am I correct in thinking that how the initial set up as been performed that
the credit card will attempt to auto transfer money from my account at the
end of the month? If so, how do I change it over to the set-up I want?

I have been informed by my American fiancée that they're should be an option
to either have it auto-transferred, or for HSBC to bill me, and me to write
them a cheque.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
-My wife gets a bill every month. She then goes on-line and does a
transfer to pay off as much as she wants. She could send a cheque. I
believe the "auto" is optional but whether it is an opt in or opt out
you would have to check. www.hsbc.co.uk may be a good place to start.

-I have a direct debit for the minimum payment, so that I can never
accidentally miss a payment, and pay the balance in the same was as your
wife.

-I rang the bank and it seems all sorted. But I forgot to ask one question:

Does anyone know what the calling rate is of the Oversees bank card phone
number 44 1226 261 010 ?

Is it free? I'll be calling from the US.
