How can I make A Jewelry Box
My number two daughter has asked if I would make her a jewelry box. But I'm
a wood turner and not a cabinet maker.
Has anyone any ideas for how one might turn something that would pass for a
jewelry box? All I can think of is something square. partitioned and made
from boards.
About 40 years ago I made a jewelry box for my then not yet wife
She uses it every day and still likes it very much
I made it like a flat bottom bowl with a smooth lid on it, 2 handed use to
lift the lid, I turned a shoulder on the inside about half way up and turned a
tray to fit on there, with a knob to lift the tray out
I used a nice piece of Brazilian Palisander for the lid and a very dense piece
of tropical hardwood, (I forgot the name), for the bowl
Two circles of felt, one for the bowl bottom and one for the tray to keep the
"jewels" from sliding around or falling off
Don't make it to small, the one I made is about 10" across and 4" high and if
I had to do it again I would make it bigger or a little higher with 2 trays
