Is there anything for hormonal acne?
I've been on medication (retin A, retin micro, differin, antibiotics) and tried
everything. I recently purchased Murad and thought it was helping by my chin
right now is a mess and I'm getting two cysts on my NOSE!!! I'm 40 years old
have always taken good care of my skin and just can deal with this.
From what I read and what my gyn/ob just confirmed there is nothing you can do
for it. Please if anyone has used something that controls this, please share.
-Since I had the same problem going through an early "change of life"
(declining estrogen levels), a combination of estrogen replacement therapy,
Glyderm lotion and a course of Minocin helped me. Also, chronic HIGH levels
of stress can trigger hormonal problems, including elevated androgen levels
(causing hair loss and cystic acne) as well as the production of cortisol
(chemically related to cortisone) which promotes weight gain.
You might do well to consult an endocrinologist and ask for some tests.
-I would suggest you go to an endocrinologist. But not before you have read
Redmond's book The Good News About Women's Hormones. You can get this I believe
on Amazon, I got mine at Barnes and Noble. Find an open minded endocrinologist
and go armed with the knowledge from the book. Yes, there are things that can
help hormonal acne
-Spironolactone (Aldactone brand name) DOES work for hormonal acne, have you
tried this?
I am taking it and it has been the thing that has cleared my skin up- I tried
everything else except Accutane. I am however having problems getting my dose
just right-- too little and I start breaking out again, too much and my period
skips. I chose NOT to go on the Pill, which I think most people who take
ALdactone use to fix the monthly side effects/period irregularities which
Aldactone causes.
My skin is a LOT better...I still have a way to go before I am satisfied,
because my skin is still sensitive and quick to break out. I wish I could have
clear skin without using meds daily....I am afraid of the side effects of
Accutane, but how nice itmust be to finish a course and then not have to take
anything else! I worry about the joint/muscle aches..I have heard they continue
for years after Accutane is stopped in some people...
