Heart of the Ocean necklace.
In shopping around for one, I found a web page that said that the
"Real Heart of the Ocean Necklace" sold for $3.3 million. But, I
thought that this necklace was completely made up! Was there such a
necklace before, does anyone know? (I know it wasn't on the Titanic)
It was completely fictional, although the "backstory" given in the film is
similar to that of several real gems (e.g., the Hope Diamond), and that
gives the story a certain believeability.
The "real" necklace you heard about is one that was made *after* the film
began breaking box office records. The main stone is not a diamond, but
(IIRC) a sapphire or similar blue stone. The necklace was bought at
auction by Celine Dion's husband as a gift for her. The new, "real" Heart
of the Ocean necklade is a fine metaphor for Hollywood itself --
expensive, gauche and ultimately phony.
it's real saphires and diamonds!!!! I seriously doubt it! My
sister just got engaged and her fiancee told me the diamond ring was over
$3K and it's less than 1 carat (or is it karat)! No surrounding diamonds or
saphires just one measly diamond!
It sounds like you can afford it and I'm sure it would make her much more happy
than any diamond necklaces.
