Credit check?? I hope that's not important.
I don't have a very good credit score, and I see on the application that
they want to look into that. Is this going to be a problem? The moment I get
hired, my debt is pretty much gone for good...
Debt is no problem.
*Bad* debt (lots of missed payments, bounced cheques, etc) could cause an
eyebrow to get raised somewhere. If you have bad debt, be forthcoming about
it in any interviews. Bad debt could cause problems with obtaining a
security clearance.
If you haven't done so yet, contact Equifax and TransUnion and get a free
copy of your credit report. You can request an Equifax report by phone at
1-877-323-2598 using their automated system, if you have a credit card to
verify your identity (still no charge for the report, though). TransUnion
only provides a report by mailing in or faxing a request and copies of
identification. Go over the reports, correct any errors, and question
anything that doesn't look right. That should minimize any attention paid
to it by the recruiters. Reviewing your credit file is something everyone
should do periodically anyways, CF applicant or not.
