What do you think about Collection Agency in violation of Fair Credit Reporting Act?
I signed up for some web hosting last year, and then I switched
companies. I was paying the hosting company on a month to month basis
via Paypal. After I canceled service, the continued to rack up a bill
without my knowledge. Over a year later, I received a letter from a
collection agency.
On March 8th, I sent the collection agency a dispute letter with USPS
delivery confirmation, asking them to validate the debt. As of now,
they have failed to respond to the request for debt validation, and
now they recently put the debt on my Equifax credit report. Isn't it
a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act to put something on my
credit report that they can't validate?
The charge is for less than $150, but I refuse to back down to these
sleezy collection agencies. Can someone tell me if they have
violoated the law at this point and how to proceed?
-I don't see that you have resolved the problem with the ISP. They made a
mistake on the billing and show that you owe them money. As long as the
amount due is reflected in their records any attempt to validate the
charges by either a collection
