What wedding jewelry did you pick? Would you pick it today?
I never got an engagement ring; we were both students and there was no
way that was fitting into the budget. On top of that, I don't really
like Tiffany-set brilliant cut diamond solitaires. I've actually gone
so far as to try on engagements rings to see whether I'd like one,
but nothing has ever really excited me.
I was a little surprised when I saw Kevin Costner's fiancees ring. It was
an itty bitty solitaire. Maybe they are sending a message out. I mean, for
them, it was small. It had to be less than 1 carat. Not saying that is too
small, but in this day and age with stars getting the big rings, it was
small by comparison. Did anyone else see it?
Great explanation of your situation and thoughts on it. Since you didn't
receive an engagement ring "proper" at the time, maybe you just get what
feels right to you at this major anniversary, and then get another great one
that feels right at the time of your next major anniversary, and so on.
First, this addresses your probable changing tastes and, second, it sounds
like a fair way to make up for not having an engagement ring for all this
time, haha. (Although I completely understand the situation and would go
along with no ring if it's not the *right* ring.)
Maybe a trad white diamond is not you. Maybe a Princess Diana sapphire
surrounded by diamonds would suit you better. Maybe a colored diamond is
"you". I know someone who works at Cartier and her wedding ring is a yellow
diamond, AFAICT, and it looks great on her because you know she choose it
because it suits her and not because "that's what everybody gets". I don't
think its actually a canary but it could be.
I do not think that gold is dowdy for engagement, especially a gold band.
The best looking wedding band I've ever seen on a woman was a gold band with
the center part sort of inset and in satin finish (the outer portion was
polished). No other ornamentation. I have looked for but not found one
exactly like that and as simple and elegant.
If you like something other than trad cut diamonds on platinum (my mother's
marquise in platinum was lovely) and you get something that feels right to
you, you can be sure that you will be considered as one who knows her own
style, at least by fashionistas in the know.
I guess you cannot wait for a visit to Place Vendome shops before deciding?
:) Oh how much fun it would be to accompany you there on a mission to find
an engagement ring.
