Anyone know if a jewelry buyer (NOT PAWN SHOP) in the PDX area that gives fair prices?
Got a REALLY nice 1 ct diamond ring that a friend is trying to
sell..but the pawn shops are always out to rape people. The diamond
alone is appraised at $6500. So...I told her I'd see if I could find
a buyer for it...thought I'd start with jewelry dealers who purchase
from the public. Anyone have any recommendations
I notice a fair amount of private party sales in the Oregonian ... please
keep in mind that a dealer has to consider mark up for resale, so I don't
know that you'll much of a difference between them and a pawn shop. I've
learned to not trust appraisals; you're better off considering the color,
cut, clarity and all that other good stuff from a gemologist's report and
compare to a web site like shaneco.com. If you notice Costco's price
guarantee, they sell their diamond jewelry at a "half of retail appraisal
value" so that goes to show that appraisals are deceiving. Anyone had
experience with "All That Glitters"? Just my two cents worth ...
I've ahd experience with all that glitter's. THEY SUCK! Their jewelry is
far overpriced, and as for their stone replacement gurantee, any jeweler
that is worth a tenth of it's weight in lead, gives that same gurantee some
for only 30 bucks extra some for free, and they can get better stones then
ATG. Also never want to pawn anything there, as there is a 50/50 chance
they will sell it off before your time is up....Have had friends pawn things
there on a 90 day pawn, went back to get it 3 weeks later and "oh so sorry
it's gone, no you can't have compensation and if you don't like it too bad,
if you want to say anything else about it get out before we call the police
and 86 you, thank you have a nice day and please shop with us again," so I
wouldn't recommend them for anything as pretty much everything there is way
overpriced, they exagerate on the retail prices too. Anyhow you asked about
experience with ATG and I gave mine
