Strong necklace-chain for a locket?
have a locket that I'd like to wear, but I broke the chain that it
came on... and in general, I ALWAYS break chains. So I'm
asking if anyone has any suggestions for a good durable chain that I
could wear it on... or are all chains probably going to break if you
aren't careful? What materials will work, what construction
details/shape should I be looking for? If you don't think any chain
will work for someone who's REALLY careless about heavy backpacks
dragging around the neck/shoulder area, should I go with a ribbon or
thong or something?
a curb link or round link chain with the links soldered and the clasp,
preferably lobster claw, soldered, etc, will be your best bet. variations on
this theme are the figaro link, it's basically a curb chain with variegated
links.
other chains which look strong but are not are rope chains...they
are actually incomplete links, and a good tug will break them, or at least
stretch them, and snake chains...sorry, i wei, but it's true, yank on that
chain and it will break.
i use my 16 year old nephew as a guide to what will last an what wont. if he
can't break it, it can't be done.
i'm looking hard for a curb link chain...a plain one!! none of that diamond cut
doodah for me..and i have found a few...very few...at QVC. you might check
there..the prices are almost reasonable.
