Pricing beaded jewelry
This question probably has been asked many times, but I would
really welcome any suggestions/comments. I have been thinking
about selling some of my beaded creations using semi-precious
beads and SS or GF findings. I also do beaded vessels (using
delicas). I have found a couple of places that would take them on
consignment, but I am not sure how to price my work. Obviously, I
don’t want the prices to high or low. Somewhere (sorry, I can’t
remember the source or author) I read that the pricing scheme is
as follows: Add all costs, multiply costs by 2.5, and add $12.00
as an hourly wage.
I am wondering about the 2.5 factor (seems a bit too high when
one is working from home and thus has little overhead), and
beaded vessels would be outrageously expensive at $12.00 per
hour.
So what is a reasonable pricing scheme?
you"ll never get a decent hourly wage doing intricate
beadwork. I only sell my work so I can have some money to
buy more beads! Tip for selling at craft shows: have lots of in-expensive
items as well as your designer stuff. Often you can cover your costs with
simple braclets or earrings ( daisy chain, or hemp braclets are good)and
then when you sell one of your better pieces, its all gravy! That Bead Lady....
