DHC Skincare mail order hassle / my rant-o-rama

As a regular mail order customer of many catalogs, this is the first time
I've had this problem.
Here's a cut & paste of the complaint I e-mailed to DHC Customer Service
twice and never got a reply.
"In the month of June, I have placed two orders with DHC Skincare. Each
time, I attempted to order six boxes of the Silky Cotton cosmetic pads (item
#98) and was told that they were not available, to try again later. The
items would not even be placed on my orders as 'backorder' status, meaning
that I would have to keep calling back to check availability of the item
and, (this is what really upset me) that I would have to pay shipping for
this separate order. If the item had been put on one of my original orders.
the shipping would have already been paid for the combination of items.
Not only does DHC's handling of this matter this cause an inconvenience to
the customer, it is also costlier for customers making them pay for a
separate shipping charge.
ALL other mail order companies I have dealt with do offer to put temporarily
out of stock items on backorder status so that the item is on the same
order, which in my opinion, how this should have been handled."
What are the 'back order" policies of most mail order companies? In my
experience, this has never happened. As if shipping costs aren't inflated
enough by these companies then they come up with a way to charge extra
shipping fees for products that were not available at the time of original
order.
