Debt Negotiation Truth ?
I live in a community property state and will be meeting with my stbx to
determine how we will split up property and divide debt. According to law, I
am expected to take on one half the debt we have accumulated.
I don't understand this. He makes considerably more money than I do, so why
shouldn't he be responsible for a larger portion of the debt? Also, most of
our debt is actually his anyway - is there any way out of this? I am going
to be saddled with a debt load that will take me years to pay off. I could
cry thinking about it.
All the years I didn't buy things because I didn't think we could afford
them, and there he was just throwing our money around. Now I have to pay his
damn debt and I got nothing from it. Man, it just ain't fair.
