how to get debt free college
College can always be managed if you want it enough by borrowing,
working etc. I do not regard having saved enough money for college
for ones children to be a primary goal. In some cases (and my ds, one
SIL and one of my grandsons are examples), college that is fully paid
for by parents is not properly appreciated. In those cases, it was
necessary for them to WANT college enough to figure out how to do it
on their own because they screwed it up the first time they tried it
which would be a complete waste of the parent's money. any ideals
leaving the children in debt after college was not something we
wanted to do.
As for the money, if they had not gone to college, they would have
had a year's tuition as a start out fund while they were looking for
a job or working and they would have been able to spend that as they
pleased.
Both of my children fully appreciated their college days, btw. They
both knew how to handle money and budget in high school and
neither of them screwed up their college at all. So I don't think the
fact that it was paid for by us made any difference except that they
both came out of college debt free just as I did with my scholarships
and hubby did with his parent's paying his tuition.
