A new CRM implementation starts on a group of three different companies.
Some of their customers are the same, but not all.How many CRMs needed? and
How do you advise me to proceed: installing 3 different CRMs, or 1 CRM with
3 Business Units?
In addition to the affiliation question, which would drive the legality of a
single install, I think the main issue is the Network infrastrucutre. If
they have seperate infrastructures, then you are going to be in for a major
headache trying to get a single install with 3 BU's to work.

If everything is on the same infrastructure, and you need to share those
common customers, then I would go with the 3 BU approach as that's the
easiest way to share the data.
