Bad Credit History Repair ? Help
I have had a few medical bills go into my credit history, because of
mixups between coinsurance companies. Now the question is how do I go
about trying to "repair" this credit stuff ? How are these companies
that "calim" to fix bad credit ??
Do not, repeat do not, use a 'credit repair' company...you can do the same
thing they do for the cost of a few letters. What they do is simply
challenge negative information in the hopes that the credit grantor will
fail to verify it within the 30 day period allowed. If that happens the
bureau will remove the negative mark. This does not prevent the grantor
from making a new report if the information is accurate...
Here's the problem you have. Basically, you are responsible for the bills
being paid. Thus, the fact that the insurance companies delayed payment
isn't a defense that will work with the credit bureau. You have to go to
the credit grantor, explain the situation to them (with documentation) and
ask them to remove the negative marks. They don't *have* to, but if you
are polite, make your case with documentation and ask them to, they might.
If you can get a statement from the insurance companies about the mixup,
you would have a better chance, at least in my opinion.
If they fail to remove the marks, write a 100 word maximum statement that
describes the situation and send it to the credit bureaus. Once you have
done this, be sure to request a copy of your report about a month later to
verify that your statement is there.
In the statement, be sure to use only facts...not opinion. Do not be
vindictive, etc. Something that describes the mixup, that the bill was
covered by insurance and was paid.
