Speaking of Credit Cards.
Speaking of Credit Cards.
?
.I received a letter from JCPenney telling me
they were sending me a new credit card (I haven't used the old one in
about three years) and instead of a "store" card it will be MasterCard.
Since I already have M/C I will be calling the store to cancel their
kind offer.
A year or more ago I signed for a Macy's credit card to take advantage
of a sale and was issued a Visa card. Since I didn't have one I
accepted it but haven't used it since. I keep thinking they will have
another terrific sale I just won't be able to resist, but so far...no
luck. Might as well cancel that one, too.
-Consumer protection agencies recommend that you have no more than two credit
cards plus a bank debit card. Carry one credit card and the debit card with
you and leave the other one at home as a backup in case you lose your
purse/wallet or it is stolen.
-Did I already post this? About a year ago Sears talked me into
applying for a credit card by saying they would give me $10 off my
purchase right then and there. So I did. About six months later when
I was in Sears again they wanted me to apply for a DIFFERENT Sears
card through MasterCard. I would get $20 off my order right then and
there. I refused and the clerk made a couple of snide comments under
her breath about rich women who didn't worry about saving $20. What
do I need two Sears cards for? I didn't even need one since they take
regular credit cards anyway. Up until then I only had one credit
card, much easier that way.
And if you happened to apply for credit for a major item like a car,
the credit companies not only check your rating, they add up all your
card money limits, and if your limits are too high compared to your
income you could be turned down.
