How's this better than consumer credit counseling services?

I would like to know if anyone has experience with Emergency Debt
Relief, and could you post your experience. They offer a service
different than consumer credit counseling in that they promise to cut
your debt, not just manage your payments. They also claim it's going
to be better for you in the long run. However, they instruct you not
to pay your debtors for something like 2 or 3 months. How's this
better than consumer credit counseling services? Any suggestions?
- Stay away from them. The old rule still applies: If it sounds too
good to be true, it is.
I'm betting they want you to pay something _in advance_ for their
"service". After you pay their fee, you'll be no better off plus
you'll be out however many $100 they want. In fact, you'll be worse
off, because your creditors will be mad at you for not paying them for
2 or 3 months.
-Unfortunately, there are many disreputable people who try to take
advantage of people in your situation. Be careful about these debt
consolodation agencies. You would do well to contact the consumer rights
agency that your state and/or local community operate in order to see
what your best options are. You can probably find information about such
agencies on your state or county's web site or at your nearest public
library.
