computer training . !-- end title -->

If I wanted to become a computer technician in the uk, how would I go about
this ? What course / courses should I take, assuming I have no experience in
computing apart from generally knowing my way about, ie using the net ,
newsgroups etc.

-Apart from doing a Google on "Computer training" including the quotes, the
best place to start looking is your local public library. They can tell you
which institutes offer courses, and at this time of year you can pick up
prospectuses (prospecti??) from most colleges of further education etc. You
could also ask to see a careers advisor at your local Job Centre.
As far as professional qualifications are concerned, see
http://www.city-and-guilds.co.uk
There's also a publication called Floodlight which lists all further
education and training opportunities throughout the entire country.
-Training in computer depends on what you want to do. To become a tech person
you need to probably go to a technical type school that focuses on hands on
training. If you want to do internet design or programming you would need
either a college or you could learn some things from tutorials or books but
only a person who picks up computer stuff easily can learn that way, most
have to go to school. Some very talented programmers never studies it but
nowadays there are so many computer languages that schooling is the best
way. Some things can be learned by building your own computer and this can
be done if you know a person who has experience to help you out. Then
there are those who specialize in networking or communications so you need
to find out what part of the field you want to enter. If you just want to
rapair computers then you could probably learn it in a couple of years in a
vocational type school.
-Look for a job with a semi-large PC place that does hardware and
software rollouts and/or cabling for large firms/clients. You may have
to work nights. It's a good place
to start doing the easy stuff but in the process you get the experience
as you;ll be faced with many niggles even tho you have directions to
follow.
