Choosing a Bouquet of Wedding Flowers

At one time, white was the look for wedding flowers. Today’s brides, however; are choosing to express their creativity and personalities in the wedding flowers they select. Bridal bouquets no longer must follow a standard style or color. Take a look at a few of the emerging trends in bridal bouquets.

Color, Color
While the traditional all white bouquet still makes its way onto the scene of some weddings, more and more brides are choosing to liven up their wedding flowers with bursts of color. No color is taboo in today’s weddings. Brilliant reds and burgundies are making elegant splashes amidst wedding flowers and even black roses have found their way into the mix.

In Season or Out of Season?
While it may be expensive, some brides are choosing to use out of season wedding flowers. While they are definitely more expensive and much harder to keep fresh until and during the ceremony and reception; out of season wedding flowers can definitely make an exotic statement. One option for using out of season wedding flowers without the exorbitant cost is to choose silk flowers. Not only are the silk blooms less expensive, but they certainly ‘wear’ better and can provide a nice decorative touch to the bride’s home after the wedding.

Style and Design of Bouquets
Formal, long cascading bouquets are no longer as in style as they once were. While this traditional, tear-dropped design is still seen; it is most often reserved for more formal weddings. More and more brides are choosing either a hand tied bouquet or a single stemmed wedding flower adorned with a ribbon. Not only are both of these choices in wedding flowers great cost saving methods, but the look of both is very simple and elegant, complementing any style wedding.

The Victorian nosegay, also called a tussie mussie, is finding its way into weddings as well. This sweet posy features a round, tight arrangement of wedding flowers. The nosegay is usually smaller than more formal arrangements and can be created with a variety of blooms.

Whichever style and design you choose, take into consideration the style of gown you have chosen as well as your own stature. A cascading bouquet will overwhelm a petite bride, but she will be complimented by a smaller bouquet. A formal, cascading bouquet works better for taller brides. Consider the design and style of your gown as well. Is the waistline one of the beautiful features of your gown? If so, then you might consider a smaller bouquet of wedding flowers.

Almost all flowers have a special meaning. At one time in history, no one considered sending flowers without first consulting the meaning of that flower to insure it was appropriate for their tone and message. Brides of today are once again reviving this old fashioned tradition and selecting wedding flowers with special meanings. Roses, one of the most popular choices in wedding flowers, have over twenty-five different meanings, depending on the color and type. Baby’s breath means pure of heart while yellow tulips are declaration of perfect love.
