claritin cause acid reflux

Can claritin cause acid reflux?
I just recently started having a bad case of acid reflux and I noticed it started about the same time I started taking the allergy medicine claritin. I'm not sure this is even logical but I'm giving it a shot.

I take allegra, which is another antihistamine (still prescription, sadly) but if I take it on an empty stomach I get 10 different kinds of nauseous and acidy. I guess it's not a stretch to think that the claritin might be giving you issues. Try taking it in the morning with some sort of bread. As long as I have my bagel with the allegra I'm fine all day.
I would approach an allergy from a different angle anyway. An allergy is one of the basic signs of compromised immune function. Drugs and chemicals will only serve to relieve symptoms (whilst offering you some wonderful side-effects as you already know), and also tend to add stress to an already weakened immune system.

If you want some information on how to deal with allergies better, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Incidentally, if the issue of Acid Reflux doesn't go away, a colleague of mine experienced remarkable results when he was very ill with the condition.

Your acid reflux is aggravated by over-the-counter meds.
See your doctor, do not buy grocery store heartburn items first...

1)No sodas - the carbonation is bad
2)No fried foods of any kind
3) No tomato products (pizza, spaghetti sauce, juice) - too acidic
4)Reduce meat products to 3oz-5oz per day.
5)No fatty meats, no pork products (deli meats, hot dogs, pork chops)
6)Reduce caffeine - no decaffenieted.
7)Eat only low-fat or fat free sauces, dressings, breads, etc..

Fatty foods contribute to the problem, as do acidic things like tomatoes and fruits. While this list looks difficult, it's not. What you eat is a choice. It's not cultural or work-related or even environmental.
