Short-term capital gains dividends from mutual fund?

If a mutual fund identifies a portion of its dividend as

short-term capital gains, should that be treated as a short

term capital gain or as an ordinary dividend (not

qualified)?
While the Fund might tell you this information is there to

help you understand the Fund's performance, they rfeally put

it there to confuse you no end. And to get you to write

messages such as this one.

Just ignore that figure. It is alrready incuded on the

Fund's ordinary dividend amount.

And if you notice closely, the short-term gain amount is not

associated with any Form 1099-DIV box number.
