Q. Can anyone point to a website, or give me advice, re recovery of bad debts. A typical situation arose yesterday where a client who owed nearly £2,000 has been saying you will get it next week but next week has never arrived. Her defiant tone was take me to court if you want but I can not pay as I have nothing. What can I do that is more effective
A. Ask her if she would object to the letter you are about to send to her friends, neighbours and family detailing her welching on her debts. She will not sue for libel because a) the system does not work b) If she cannot pay your debt she certainly will not be able to pursue a legal remedy. A firm I've used more than once offers 'no cure, no pay' debt collection services. They ask for 4% of the amount collected, IIRC, but they do add 'admin charges' which the debtor pays, making it about 5% at the end of the day. Basically, you assign the debt to them, and they chase it, through the courts if necessary. The company is called London Credit Services. you can email them at l...@gstgroup.co.uk, but they don't have a website. I called them in for a £1500 debt. They got me £1400 of it, and charged £60. .
