Acid reflux

I am only 14 and im getting acid reflux! My Dad has got it before many times and so i explaned my symptoms to him and he said it was acid reflux. Is it unusual for me to get it because im so young? How can i prevent it? Someone said that it has to do with stress. What is something that i can do while having acid reflux that can calm me down!? Cause i freak out and make it hard to breath. What cause's it?

I also suffered from acid reflux as a teenager, although it is more frequent in adults. Many different imbalances can lead to acid reflux some areas to think about are diet, medications, and exercise. Firstly diet: foods with high acidity, and foods such as soft drinks and especially energy drinks can be very hard to digest and lead to acid reflux limit your intake of these items. Not enough food can also be an issue be sure to eat good foods every day an empty stomach can turn into an unhappy stomach.

Medications: have you started any new medications lately? If so ask your doctor if it could be a possible side effect.

Exercise: if your not getting good exercise your body will start to show it with various symptoms.

Stress is a factor as well of course, stress plays a huge part in the health of a person perhaps more than any factor. Being 14 is stressful any way you look at it, if you feel stress mounting and aren't finding an outlet then figure out an activity that you enjoy to relieve stress and "just do it".

Lastly my acid reflux occured mostly at night, I found that if I didn't eat before bed and avoided overeating in general my symptoms improved. I always kept Tums in my bedroom and water as the episodes of waking in the middle of the night unable to breath were scary and being able to take a drink sooth my stomach with an antacid allowed me to get back to sleep.

Oh yea, just in case...alcohol consumption is also a huge contributor to acid reflux. Hopefully that's a non-issue for you, but if you are drinking realize that that will make you acid reflux and overall health worse.
