Treatment for acne scars?

I've had acne for a few years and just got off accutane about 1 and a half
months ago. It has cleared up for the most part, but now i'm left with a
bunch of purplish scars all over my forehead. I have had these for more
than 1 1/2 years, so they aren't temporary. I have many little dots and
then one big scar, probably half an inch across, that looks (and feels)
indented. I asked my dermatologist about this, and he told me that he could
do a procedure where he took a scalpel and cut the scar out (or something
like that), and the scar made by the scalpel would be smaller than the one I
currently have. I have never heard of anything like this, and it seems a
little scary to me. That surgery also wouldn't help the tiny purple dots
that are on the rest of my forehead. Does anyone know which surgeries would
be best for my condition (just based on my description) that I could ask my
dermatologist about? Or is there another specialist that I should go to?
-Here are some topics you can look into and research and then mention to your
dermatologist, these topics come up occasionally on this newsgroup and much
information can be found on the internet. Look into.... dermabrasion, chemical
peels, laser resurfacing, collagen injections. I have no idea what would be best
for you but at least you can research these and then mention them to your
dermatologist.

-I am kind of in the same boat as you. I think what your doctor was
referring to is something called punch grafting, where they cut out
the scar and then restitch it back together so it is smaller.
Personally, I am trying to get a procedure done with a vascular laser,
which zaps red marks and makes them go away by destroying the blood
vessels underneath. That is what they use to get rid of port wine
stains also. I think that would be best for your purple dots. Ask
your doctor about the pulse-dye laser also known as a vascular laser.
If he doesn't have the laser, then find someone who does. Make sure
you talk to a few different doctors because some will try to shuck you
into expensive stuff.
