Flaky skin + break-outs
My problem is that I break out, but the surface of my skin is flaky. I
never no just how to treat it. My skin does get oily a few hours after
washing, but right after washing it looks dry and peely. Any advice would
be much appreciated.
-I have the same problem actually. The best way I treat is by using a
non-comedogenic moisturizer right after washing and before putting on makeup.
I know there are a ton of these moisturizers but I hate the feel of
moisturizer on my face as most are too greasy. But I have Johnson's Clean
and Clear and it moisturizes the dry areas and actually feels kind of tingly
like an astringent at the same time. Its designed for acne prone skin which
gets dry. I also take a tissue right after I use a moisturizer and wipe off
the excess in about a minute after appliacation so as not to make my skin
oily at all.
- I want to point out some misunderstandings
of people, like oily skins don't need moisturizer, WRONG! ALL skins
types NEED moisturizers. Especially oily or acne-prone skin, because
if skin lacks of water, it will end up producing more sebum so to
moisturize itself, but sebum itself is really a bad moisturizer and
will cause further loss of water, so the skin will then try to retain
its water by thickening its horny layer (by building up keratin), which
will cause skin looks flaky, uneven and dry. So the solution is
put on moisturizer everytime after cleansing, the kind of moisturizers
for oily or acne-prone skins use must be oil-free (which can be checked
on the package) and light weight (easily absorbed), since if the
product is not easily absorbing, the amount left on skin will clog
pores finally, if you feel greasy after putting on that moisturizer,
it means that it is too heavy, you should switch it or try something
lighter (like change cream to emulsion, change emulsion to gel).
So choosing a suitable moisturizer for your skin types is the first
step of skin care.
Another common misunderstanding is oily skin need more often cleansing,
which is definetely wrong too! As the more you wash your skin, the
cleanser for oily skin will always take away the water for your skin
which only stimulate more sebum secretion, and ends up worse... So the
optimum frequency for cleasing your skin is 2 times a day, one before
bed and one after waking up.
Also try to include a astringent in your skin care program, which is
very helpful for oily skin, as it can tighten pores and control the
oil secretion, which should be used between cleansing and
moisturizing.
