what is the best fashion/beauty advice you have ever gotten?

What is the best beauty/fashion advice you have ever gotten or heard
from someone?
-"Don't use moisturizer if your skin is oily. YOU DON'T NEED IT."

-- Paula Begoun (paraphrased)

-find a style you like and look good in, and don't listen to "the fashion
buzz"

-When I was 15, my mom marched me right over to the Clinique counter and told me
that she wanted to start me on the right skin care regimen. She said that she
didn't want me to look like her when I was her age. Little did she know she
made a monster out of me. Now that I'm 38 years old, it has progressed into a
very expensive habit. I will always remember that day, and now appreciate her
forking over the extra bucks to help me take good care of my skin.

-From various sources: Drink lots of water every day!

-Dress and makeup to accentuate your unique features. I am not sure
where I first heard this advice, but I feel it's the best for me.
Instead of following trends.. I look for current styles that flatter my
shape and style.. and add trendy but inexpensive pieces to dress it
up. I try not to dwell on those things I don't have, and work with
what I have that I think is unique. For me, it's accentuating curves in
a subtle way.. playing up classic sculptured features etc.. working
with my fine straight but very healthy hair.. instead of curling it do
death. Not fighting it.. and going with what I naturally have, is so
much easier too.
